Little Stitches

Amy Butler has a new book out, Little Stitches. I heard about this book a few months ago and the release date wasn't supposed to be until September but it's available now! I can't wait to get my hands on this new book, especially since my best friend is expecting soon!

Amazing...

PeeWee Update

Peewee had to have emergency surgery yesterday for his back. His back problems got progressively worse over the weekend and on Monday morning he could not walk at all. I rushed him to a neurologist and they got him into surgery right away. The doctor removed the ruptured disc and they expect a full recovery. He is in the hospital now, I will hopefully get to bring him home on Friday. Sorry for the lack of posts, this whole experience has been extremely draining and emotional.

PeeWee

We were at the emergency vet with PeeWee last night. He had his first incident with back issues last night. He "went down" as they call it and for a few minutes seemed to lose mobility in his back legs all together. He started walking again but his entire back side was tight and trembling and he yelped when I went to pick him up so finally we decided it was time to take him to the emergency vet. He is epileptic so initially we thought he might have been having a seizure but when we got to the vet they confirmed that it was disc/back related. They recommended cage rest for the next six weeks and we are to watch him very carefully because this can cause paralysis and neurological problems. I was up with him throughout the night last night. The trembling finally stopped but he is definitely favoring his back legs and you can tell he is in pain. The doctor gave us some pain meds but told us to use them sparingly. They don't want him to feel like he is better and exert himself and injure himself even more. From my understanding this will be an ongoing problem...it's possible he will never go down again or it could be something that happens sporadically for the rest of his life. We just have to watch him and make sure he avoids jumping and too much rough housing. My poor little guy! He seems so helpless and sad, definitely not himself.

Biking

Mike and I got bikes this weekend. We have been shopping for bikes all summer but I had an idea in my mind of exactly what I wanted and finally I was flipping through this month's issue of Domino on Friday night and there it was in the Editor's favorite picks! Mike wasn't home at the time so I showed it to him on Saturday morning and he laughed and said he had found the same bike on line the day before and found a bike shop in the city who carried it! I can't believe we picked the same bike! It's a Schwinn Retro style Cruiser. We went to the bike shop and they had a men's and women's style...they are called "Coffee" and "Cream"....a little cheesy, I know, but they are awesome bikes! We went riding all day Saturday. It was so much fun...this weekend I think we are going to head over to Governor's Island with them.

How many Earths does your life consume?

I was browsing on Apartment Therapy and found this link to an interactive game which gives you insight into the impact of your lifestyle on the Earth. It would take 2.5 Earths to sustain my lifestyle! The shopping section got me...I was doing so well until that point! Luckily I have already acknowledged that my spending habits are a bit of a problem and have made a promise to myself to stop shopping so much! It's a fun little game and worth checking out! Happy Friday everyone!

Finding Inspiration

I'm back! Portland was great, I will post some photos soon...the drive home was long and there was a lot of settling in to do last night (think getting locked out of your apartment and finding a fridge full of rotted food!)...so there was no time to upload photos.

Have you ever checked out the Storque's "Quit Your Day Job" feature? The stories are so inspiring....I read these when I need motivation.

I really want to quit my day job and run Kopah full time. It's always been my dream to own my own business, since I was little. My grandma used to send me boxes of stuff like pencils, erasers, candy, in large quantities and I would sell it at school (sorry grandma!), so the desire has always been there. My mom says I get that from my dad!

While I want Kopah to be successful and eventually support me (and as long as I'm wishing for stuff, to support Mike too!), it's so hard to stay motivated. I work full time and when I come home all I want to do is relax, not think about another business. It's so hard trying to find a balance. While Kopah is nowhere near being able to support me, I still think/dream about it every day. I find inspiration by reading Etsy success stories. It keeps me motivated and inspired to keep working at it, even when I want to give up! I have so many ideas floating around in my head and so many things I want to implement and I have to admit that laziness often takes over. Sometimes I can be my own worst enemy! I think I need to make myself more accountable, hold myself to my goals...not only find inspiration, but keep it!
