Coco

So a few weeks ago I was flipping through channels and saw that Lifetime was showing a movie about the life of Coco Chanel. I knew nothing about her life prior to watching the movie, just the basics. What an amazing woman! She was incredibly independant and very strong willed and she had such amazing style...the movie is definitely worth watching!

Lame...

I'm sorry for being so non-existent lately! I know it's totally lame but I am feeling so much pressure to find a location and that is literally taking up every second of time and quite frankly zapping all the fun from this whole wedding/engagement thing! It seems like we have zeroed in on a place but they are incredibly slow at getting back to me because it's wedding season and they are super busy which is totally understandable! Since I found this place though, now all of a sudden I am finding all these other places that I really like...of course! It must be Murphy's law or something...but at least we have some fall back locations if this one doesn't pan out.

Just to give you an idea of what I am going for...

Inspiring words...

"So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more dangerous to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun." - Christopher McCandless

I love this quote, this is from Christopher McCandless or maybe better known as Alexander Supertramp. I wish when we were in Alaska we could have gotten a chance to follow the Stampede Trail to the "Magic Bus" he lived in and eventually died in during his journey into the wild.

Photos

Here are the photos from our Alaska trip. We started with close to 1,000 photos and scaled them down to 172. The pictures don't even do this place justice, it really is one of the most amazing places on earth. There is so much untouched beauty here. In a world full of over consumption and over population it is reassuring to know there is still a portion of the planet that seems relatively untouched by humans. There is no litter or smog or crowds here, just nature, beautiful and preserved nature.

The highlite of our trip was Amook Island where we spent three days in a primitive cabin where we washed dishes and took showers with rain water and took banyas every day. There were no cell phones, internet, or televisions. Mike and I were the only people for miles. Our guides stayed across the way on a separate island which was a 10 minute boat ride to our island. It was so peaceful. One morning we woke up to find 5 dear outside the cabin eating salmon berries. Even looking at the pictures now, I want to be back there setting up a camp fire or walking on the beach checking out the tide pools. It is one of the best trips I have ever taken!

Ouch!

So Monday morning I was going to work and fell down the stairs in my apartment building. I bruised my tailbone! Nothing like coming back from vacation and injuring yourself! It was so bad I almost passed out! Very scary! The doctor said there isn't much they can do except manage the pain so they sent me off with a prescription and told me to go buy a doughnut which I refuse to sit on at work but I am using it at home and I seem to be getting better every day. I'm so paranoid of falling again though, it isn't the first time I've slipped and fallen on those damn stairs! Ugg, welcome back to reality...the vacation is definitely over!

I did it...

I bought the iPhone! I wasn't even planning on getting it. My phone died on me last night and when I took it to the AT&T store to fix it they said I would have to get a new phone so I figured why not buy the iPhone. I love it...I don't know how to use everything yet but I'm learning!

3 days and counting...

There is so much anticipation of our trip on Friday but Mike and I still managed to have an amazing weekend. I planned a special day for him on Saturday to celebrate his birthday since we will be on a remote island with no tv, internet, phones, stores, restaurants, or other such luxuries on his actual birthday!

Sunday was spent running around doing last minute errands before our trip. We managed to get almost everything packed. Of course the apartment is a mess, the laundry needs to be done, the fridge needs to be cleaned out, recycling taken downstairs but ahh, the moment I set foot on the plane and the captain turns on the fasten seat belt signs, there will be no more worrying, stress, or tension. No blackberry to check, no tv's, no crowded streets or subways...3 days and counting!

PeeWee Update

I took Peewee for his final vet visit today, he received a clean bill of health! They can't believe how well he has healed! He is still confined to limited activity for the next two months. Basically, he feels fine but the injury is still healing. I'm just glad to have Peewee back to normal again, he is already tyring to jump off the couch and do all the things he did prior to the surgery. It's been a challenge to try and keep him from doing acrobatics all over the apartment! But it's good to see him back to his normal routines, he's hittin' the bottle again on a regular basis!

Sorry for the light posts, my head is already in the vacation clouds...I promise to resume a more normal posting routine after my vacation!
